6 Tips for buying the Right Shoes for Kids

When you go shopping for kids shoes, you generally tend to listen to the whims and fancies of the kid. They love shoes with their favorite cartoon character on it, and as the kid loves it, you buy it for them. However it is not always that these shoes are long-lasting.

Use the help of the following tips to buy good, long-lasting kids shoes the next time you go shopping for their shoes.

  1. Never buy your child shoes without their wearing and taking a few steps with them. No matter how tempting and attractive the shoes may be, if they don’t fit well, they will only work as decorative pieces and will not be comfortable or fit for walking.

  1. Consequently, there’s no point in buying kids shoes for kids who don’t know how to walk. It’s only once the kid attempts to take a few steps on their own should you think of buying them shoes. This way, you will be able to gauge if the shoes fit your child’s foot or not.

  1. Your kid’s first pair of shoes should be flexible, stable and make a perfect fit. So avoid buying sneakers with thick soles as they are not flexible for young walking feet. The soft-soled shoes are also not a good buy as it lacks the stability new walkers look for. Just buy kids shoes with nice bottoms that help your child with their balance.

  1. When you buy kids shoes, don’t buy shoes with a tight fit. The shoes you buy should have an adult’s thumb-width distance from the child’s big toe and the front of the shoe. With some professional measurement at the shoe store, and parental intuition, you will be able to buy the right shoes for your child.

  1. Be willing to spend more for kids’ shoes your child will be wearing and using every day. You can spend less for shoes they will not be wearing on a regular basis.

  1. Once you find a pair or brand of kids’ shoes your child feels comfortable in, and it’s better to stick to the same brand and keep on buying larger sizes as your child grows.

However this does not mean you don’t have to shop around. Do shop around, especially on the net as you may be able to strike a bargain on the chosen kid’s shoes some place.
